144
The Alpha Tau Omega Tennessee Omega
Chapter was established at the University of the
South in 1877 as the first Fraternity at Sewanee.
To bind men together in a brotherhood based
upon eternal and immutable principles, with a
bond as strong as right itself and as lasting as
humanity; to know no North, no South, no East, no
West, but to know man as man, to teach that true
men the world over should stand together and
contend for supremacy of good over evil; to teach,
not politics, but morals; to foster, not partisanship,
but the recognition of true merit wherever found; to
have no narrower limits within which to work
together for the elevation of man than the outlines
of the world: these were the thoughts and hopes
uppermost in the minds of the founders of the
Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.

Alpha Tau Zeta is one of the younger sororities on
the mountain. In March 1987, three first-year
women realized the need for an intentionally
smaller sorority so that the bonds of sisterhood
could be strong and life-lasting. The sisters of
Alpha Tau Zeta are a close-knit group with real
concern and caring for one another.

pillars of strong brotherhood. This is a unique

on brotherhood and interaction. We stress the
importance of academics. We build true friendships.
The fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta was founded in 1848

motto Friendship, the sweetest influence. Internally, we
have forged a solid core of unity, for each member
knows that he can count on all of his brothers at any
time. Externally, Fijis can be found in most aspects of
Sewanee life as well. We currently boast members if
the Order of the Gownsmen, the Disciple Committee,
the Orientation committee, the Emergency Medical

Congratulitions and Best Wishes
for a Wonderful Future
Wow! My son the Geologist!
We are so incredibly proud of
you and your accomplishments.
Congratulations for achieving the
goals you have set for yourself.
Choosing to go to Sewanee was one great choice
among many good choices you have made for
yourself these past few years. We are grateful
for the educational opportunities they have afforded
you and the excellent professors, leaders and friends you have had.
By wisdom a house is built, and
through understanding it is established;
Through knowledge its rooms are
filled with rare and beautiful treasures
Proverbs 24:3-4
The way that you have taken advantage
of those opportunities and your insatiable
quest for knowledge is inspiring.
Your future truly is wide open.
Wherever life and learning take you Luke,
continue to weigh your choices carefully
and keep on dreaming up the next adventure.
1 can hardly to wait to see what happens next
Cheers to you and your future.
Love Mom, Dad & Dylan

Sea-Fever
By John Masefield (1878-1967)
I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
.\nd all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking.
And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.
I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life.
To the guU's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.
All our love. Mom, Dad & Sarah

Ode to Michael Oilale
There once was a student named Michael
Who came up to the mountain for a four-year cycle.
To the 6AEs he did belong; and then the Wellingtons came along,
Not to mention Deb balls, Bangladesh and beer pong.
For sure, all of this bliss he will certainly miss,
But the next step will be even better than this!
Love,
Mom. Dad and Will
